Extending Reach International programs are designed for people with a genuine desire to:
- Serve others through Impact Projects that will help individuals and families gain skills that can change their lives.
- Participate in a supportive friendly team, actively contributing to program success.
- Appreciate the cultures and natural beauty of an international region.
- Live in accordance with Extending Reach International guidelines based on mutual respect for each other and for local cultures.
We work with exceptional non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and public organizations in the countries where we serve. These organizations help identify groups that are anxious to learn and will facilitate the expansion of the new knowledge through supporting replication of your work. We interface with local NGOs to assure that the skills you share are those requested and valued by villagers.
Once your participation in an Extending Reach International program is finalized, you will need the following:
- Passport – Your passport must be valid for at least six months after the end date of your program
- Visas – You may need a visa to visit one or more of the countries you will visit. We can help you through the application process.
- Immunizations – Check with a healthcare provider to determine if immunizations are recommended for your particular program.
- Packing List – We will send you a suggested packing list to make your preparations easier.
Tasheni, a not-for-profit organization, is committed to facilitating service in Africa at affordable cost to maximize the value of contributions. Our decades of international networking experience allow us to focus on program logistics so that you can focus on your work with members of the communities.
Program costs are paid in three installments. A $300 USD deposit is due with your application. An additional $500 USD is required within three weeks of program finalization in order to reserve your place. Remaining program fees must be paid three months before the beginning date of your program.
You can reschedule or cancel within two weeks of registration. All changes must be managed through an Extending Reach team member. Because hotel room deposits and activity reservations must be made in advance, all program fees are non-refundable two weeks after registration. We recommend that you explore travel insurance options to protect yourself against financial loss if unexpected events require a change of plans.
Impact Projects are unique service opportunities generally that are the core of every Extending Reach International program and internship. These service projects are two-way learning activities between volunteers and local villagers. Volunteers will mentor and learn from villagers who have expressed a desire to learn how to solve some of their most pressing problems – you’ll walk beside community members, work with them, and see life through their eyes. The personal interaction between you and villagers affords the rare opportunity to experience village life first hand. You will never see your own life in the same way.
Complete the application form on this website and submit your $300 deposit. The deposit will be applied to program costs. We will then arrange for a brief internet-based interview/conversation to discuss projects, activities, and to make certain that you have selected the best program for you. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more. You must be at least 18 years old on the day of departure for your program.
